Subject to weather conditions, The Challenge has been planned to take place on Wednesday November 25, with a rehearsal taking place on Tuesday November 24.

1. Datelines for the Rehearsal and The Challenge

Both the rehearsal on Tuesday November 24, and The Challenge on Wednesday November 25 are scheduled to begin at 2:30pm Central European Time, which is:-

  • 05H30 Los Angeles and Vancouver time
  • 07H30 Houston, Winnipeg and Mexico City
  • 08H30 New York, Toronto, Jamaica and Lima time
  • 11H30 Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires time
  • 13H30 Morocco time

2. Challenge Rehearsal

The planned timings and sequence of events for the live internet webcast and broadcast of the Challenge Rehearsal on Tuesday November 24 are as follows:-

Timings

Live Webcast over the internet, and Live Broadcast via Eutelsat and BT Tower, are scheduled to begin at 14H00 CET. Please note that due to the nature of the event and the number of aircraft and personnel involved, this timing may vary by some minutes either way, so this time and all timings listed hereunder are approximate.

Purpose

  • Testing of aircraft, formation flying, cameras, communications, live streaming and broadcast.

  • Rehearsal of Search and Rescue extraction of The Challenger from the North Atlantic Ocean.

  • No flight using the jet-wings will occur during the rehearsal.

Sequence of events (all times approximate)

13H30 – 14H00
Aircraft takeoff and start of live internet webcast / live broadcasting rehearsal and testing.

14H00 – 14H30
Aircraft fly to planned Launch Point, practicing formations, radio communication and all required Challenge Procedures.

14H30 – 15H00
Helicopter Search and Rescue extraction of The Challenger from the North Atlantic Ocean by Rescue Divers.

15H00 – 15H30
Return to airport and end of rehearsal.

3. The Webtel.mobi Intercontinental Challenge

The planned timings and sequence of events for the live internet webcast and broadcast of The Webtel.mobi Intercontinental Challenge on Wednesday November 25 are as follows:-

Timings

Live Webcast over the internet, and Live Broadcast via Eutelsat and BT Tower, are scheduled to begin at 14H00 CET. Please note that due to the nature of the event and the number of aircraft and personnel involved, this timing may vary by some minutes either way, so this time and all timings listed hereunder are approximate.

Sequence of events (all times approximate)

13H30 – 14H00
Aircraft takeoff and start of live internet webcast / live broadcasting.

14H00 – 14H29
Aircraft fly to planned Launch Point, and prepare for the initiation of The Challenge.

14H30
A 10 second countdown is given, The Challenger exits the Launch Aircraft, and the Webtel.mobi Intercontinental Challenge begins.

14H30 – 14H45

  • The Challenger will cross the North Atlantic Ocean from the African Continent to the European Continent, with Camera and Search and Rescue Helicopters in pursuit. Estimated flight time is 13 minutes at 220 km/h.

  • The Transmitter Aircraft will fly top cover to transmit broadcast signals, and the Personnel helicopter and Launch Aircraft will bring up the rear.

14H45 – 15H00

  • The Challenger opens his parachute and lands.

  • All helicopters land and personnel exit.

15H00 – 15H30
Initial post-Challenge comments by Principal Parties.

15H30 – 16H30
Press Conference.

16H30
Live webcast and live broadcast end.

15H00 – 15H30
